Using Structural Equation Modeling to Reproduce and Extend ANOVA-Based Generalizability Theory Analyses for Psychological Assessments

چکیده

Generalizability theory provides a comprehensive framework for determining how multiple sources of measurement error affect scores from psychological assessments and using that information to improve those assessments. Although generalizability designs have traditionally been analyzed analyses variance (ANOVA) procedures, the same can be replicated extended structural equation models. We collected multi-occasion data inventories measuring numerous dimensions personality, self-concept, socially desirable responding compare components, coefficients, dependability proportions universe score modeling versus ANOVA techniques. further applied techniques continuous latent response variable metrics derived Monte Carlo-based confidence intervals indices on both observed metrics. Results estimated procedures seldom varied. Differences in reliability between raw were much greater scales with dichotomous responses, thereby highlighting value doing evaluate gains might achieved by increasing options. provide detailed guidelines applying demonstrated ANOVA-based statistical software.

Structural Equation Modeling in Psychological Research

This chapter presents a review of applications of structural equation modeling (SEM) published in psychological research journals in recent years. We focus first on the variety of research designs and substantive issues to which SEM can be applied productively. We then discuss a number of methodological problems and issues of concern that characterize some of this literature. Although it is cle...

Multiple tutorial-based assessments: a generalizability study

BACKGROUND Tutorial-based assessment commonly used in problem-based learning (PBL) is thought to provide information about students which is different from that gathered with traditional assessment strategies such as multiple-choice questions or short-answer questions. Although multiple-observations within units in an undergraduate medical education curriculum foster more reliable scores, that ...

Identifying Factors Associated With Hypertension Using Structural Equation Modeling: A Population-Based Study

Objectives: Hypertension is a global major health challenge and mechanisms related to the risk factors associated with it are poorly understood. Therefore, we used structural modeling to test a hypothesized model to identify factors associated with hypertension.  Methods: A cross-sectional population based survey, was performed and the data related to a random representative sample of 9704 sub...

Paper 1651-2014 Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling of Noncognitive Assessments using PROC CALIS

Noncognitive assessments, which measure constructs such as time management, goal-setting and personality, are becoming more prevalent today in research within the domains of academic performance and workforce readiness. Many instruments that are used for this purpose contain a large number of items that can each be assigned to specific facets of the larger construct. The factor structure of eac...

Performance Assessments From the Perspective of Generalizability Theory

Historically, reliability issues in psychology and education have been addressed principally using classical test theory (CTT), which postulates that an observed score can be decomposed into a “true” score and a single, undifferentiated random error term, E (Feldt & Brennan, 1989). Generalizability (G) theory liberalizes CTT by providing models and methods that allow an investigator to disentan...
